If you’ve always longed for a few days in a castle – a real castle why not head up to Insch, just north of Aberdeen for a truly authentic castle stay.
My review:
Lickleyhead Castle is a unique and spectacular Scottish Castle, beautifully located in its own private wooded glen. A babbling brook runs through the gardens. The views are stunning and the feeling of peace and tranquility is invigorating.
The Castle itself dates from the 1600s and is completely authentic. An elegant stone staircase leads up to the drawing room and a large timber panelled dining room. There are open fires in the reception rooms and a wood-burning stove in the cozy, smaller sitting room. In the basement there is a fully equipped kitchen with Aga. Adjacent to the kitchen there is a butler’s pantry and utility room. This is a real family home, there are books and games and family memorabilia to enjoy. There’s a small bar with fridge just off the drawing room. There’s another alcove for games, complete with card table and numerous games.
Bedrooms are country house style with chintz bedspreads and one four poster. Bathrooms are cute and original, several are in the turrets of the castle and are moreorless circular. There is central heating and loads of hot water.
This is a wonderful location for a group of friends or several families holidaying together. Our group of friends and family loved this really special place. We can’t wait to return to Lickleyhead Castle. Thank you to our wonderful host Candy Leslie for her kind welcome.
Note – I stayed at Lickleyhead with family and friends over New Year. The castle is an ideal venue for weddings, family gatherings or even for a group of friends. Strongly recommended.
The castle dog for the weekend was Sasha, my loyal Cairn-Poodle cross. She loved the castle and her important role as castle dog! She would like everyone to know that she’s available for castle duties anytime!
Oh, my goodness, how elegant! What a perfect way to get away from it all and to ring in the new year!
