Dame Freya Stark was my great aunt. Per her memoir “Traveller’s Prelude,” she attended Bedford College before the first world war in which she served as a volunteer nurse. Her maternal grandmother married into the House of Rospigliosi. Freya was born two months early in “Bohemia” on the Rue Denfert Rochereau in an artist studio #37. She always did have a strong will to go places even before birth!

Hi Francesca – I’ve been looking at that photo and you are right it doesn’t look like Asolo – unless they were having a very dry summer!! I think the photo was taken in Greece or Turkey – when she was making her last trips to the Eastern Mediterranean – around 1970s
