Hi Do you know anything about the Quinigi family at Lucca and their palace. The reason I ask is because I am exploring the colossal marble foot (150 -50 BC) in the Chatsworth Collection (UK) and am interested in its history and story. It is fascinating and has travelled a long way. I understand that it is believed to be part of a female acrolith or figure, originating in Ancient Greece, which was usually created with a wooden frame which was draped in fabric with only the head, hands, and feet in stone. In 1893 the 6th Duke of Devonshire bought the foot from Carolo Finelli, a sculptor in Rome and that it had belonged to the Quinigi family at Lucca where it had been in their palace. I’d like to know more about it and wonder if you came across the family name? Thanks Sue Hare
