Venice – La Biennale 2024

The Venice Biennale is the most famous and important contemporary art event in the world. The event takes place every two years. Art lovers are already starting to look forward to the 60th Biennale which will take place in the Giardini (Gardens) and Arsenale (ship-building yards) of Venice, starting on 20th April and running through to late November, 2024.

The countdown to next year’s Biennale in Venice has begun!

Late last year the Board of La Biennale di Venezia met and considered the recommendation of President Roberto Cicutto that the Curator of the 60th International Art Exhibition (La Biennale) should be Adriano Pedrosa. Everyone is very excited to confirm that Adriano Pedrosa has accepted this position.

Adriano Pedrosa lives and works in Brazil, where he is the artistic director of Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP). Pedrosa is the first Brazilian to curate Venice’s prestigious art event and also the first person from the Southern Hemisphere to hold this coveted position. He arrives in Venice with a wealth of experience having curated ‘biennale-style events’ in Sao Paulo, Istanbul and Shanghai.

In 2022 the Biennale was curated by the fabulous Cecilia Alemani – an Italian curator who lives and works in New York. Alemani is the chief Curator of the High Line Art project in New York. Alemani chose Leonora Carrington, one of my all time favourites, as her inspiration for the 2022 event. She used the words of the surrealist painter as her title for the event ‘The Milk of Dreams’.
